The long & long of it

Everyone's heard the age-old adage about hemlines matching the economy. When it's up it's up & when it's down, well, it's just down folks. And while we're both fans of showing a little leg, even we can't help but notice that long skirts are clearly the way of the future. At least for right now. Our hope? That the economy & hemlines will be sky-high again sometime soon. In the meantime, if we must rock the long skirts, we love the following styles from the fall & resort runways...

Weekend Review: H in DC

H traveled to DC this weekend to visit her best friend from college who recently moved there from Philadelphia. After traveling for 5 hours on the Bolt Bus (yes the jewelry line doesn’t pay quite enough yet to cover the cost of the train….) she arrived in DC. With the crazy heat wave that has taken over the east coast she did her best to stay in doors and air conditioned but explored out to a local Tex-mex restaurant the first night (not quite as good as the real thing but enjoyed the Austin theme and University of Texas colors – Hook ‘em Horns!).

Saturday included a trip to the roof of her friends apartment building to take in some sun and cool off in the pool (yes her apartment building has a pool on the roof – amazing!) and then a trip out to Bethesda Maryland (where every car that drove by was nicer than the last….) and dove into local cuisine of steamed crab and peel and eat shrimp. Finishing off the evening at a local Irish pub where they enjoyed the music from a cover band who had the most amazing lead guitarist – we all stared in awe as they played songs requested by the audience who have obviously been playing a bit of guitar hero and wanted to hear their favorite songs – the real life versions. Got back on Sunday – is good to be home!

When it comes to sexy, carefree summers, no one did it better than the icons of the Seventies. So grab your vintage bikini and kaftan and head for the beach to live it up like these Seventies sirens. Don't forget gobs of jewelry to make the look complete.

Big Sky

Although we're city girls through & through, sometimes the great outdoors comes a calling & even the most cynical of New Yorkers can't resist. Therefore, I found myself in Montana last week on a family vacation - exploring old copper mines, hanging with the fam, discovering local breweries and camping in the middle of the woods. The sky blanketed in stars, my brother strumming away on his guitar & the campfire burning until the late hours of the night were enough to give me my country fill until I can escape from city life again.

Weekend Review: Henri Bendel

All work and no play this weekend for the cm girls! We had our first carol marie trunk show at Henri Bendel, which meant seeing our jewelry on the mannequin in the store window on 5th Ave, having our pieces on the racks & helping customers snatch up cm pieces from the fall collection!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to show support. If you missed us, be sure to check us out again at Bendel Aug. 3-9.

Weekend Review: Happy Birthday America!!!

While we're swamped with work for carol marie, we couldn't let the long weekend get away with being all work & no play, so we tried to take advantage of the holiday weekend in any way we could. H took her first trip out the the Hamptons, staying in East Hampton with friends, visiting Sag Harbor, catching some rays at the beach in Amagansett, attending a birthday party out in Watermill and finally ending up in Montauk at an event at the Crabby Cowboy Café. J & friends hung around the city & spent a day out at the beach.

The 4th found us up on the rooftop of a friends place in Brooklyn, overlooking the gorgeous skyline of the city. We watched the sunset & then enjoyed the view of the fireworks against the lit-up skyscrapers of the NYC horizon. Nothing better than having a belly full of hot dogs & beer on a rooftop in Brooklyn to celebrate the independence of our country. The company of good friends, spectacular views & warm summer evening didn't hurt either. Happy birthday America.

Look like a lady

We love that the fifties have been popping up all over the runways. Retro with a touch of class, it's a little bit demure & a little bit mischievous. After all, dressing like a lady doesn't necessarily mean you have to act like one...
