Clearly, the way to this girl's heart is through her stomach. My favorite establishments I have to frequent when I'm home in San Diego...

At the Copa. Copacabana.
The other night I was watching "The Way We Were" and yearning for the good old days in New York when people spent a night out at places like El Morocco and The Copacabana. Days when men were required to wear a jacket to dinner and the band played all night turning your dinner experience into a full blown night of dancing & entertainment. Just when I was lamenting that old-fashioned clubs like that were long gone, enter The Darby, a swanky supper club that recently opened in Meat Packing.
Based on dinner clubs from the 50s and 60s, the place is complete with a Moroccan feel, banquet booths and a band & singers that entertain all night. Chef Alex Guarnaschelli (from Food Network) does a nice job with the menu full of updated American classics & she came out to our table to introduce herself & give us a complimentary plate of the bacon veal, her favorite dish on the menu.
We stuffed our faces, drank a few too many bottles of wine & listened to the band & singers perform amazing renditions of everything from classic love songs to Britney Spears. Was it a little cheesy? Yes. Did I adore it for just that reason? Absolutely. Sometimes a does of nostalgia perfectly hits the spot.

Couture Candy
While we're in a time when everyone is waiting eagerly for the economy to stabilize and things to return to normal, there's nothing like a fresh breath of opulence and impracticality to remind us that frivolity and fantasy still exist in this bleak state of mind. As the couture shows start this week, we bring you some of our favorites so far...

Birthday Shmirfday
There's no better way to celebrate turning a year older than with your close girl friends, a bottle of vodka frozen in a block of ice, banana pudding from Sugar Sweet Sunshine and a crazy man with a fro belting out love songs on an electric piano. Couldn't have imagined a better way to turn 28. FIGHTING!!!

Romanian food. Family style. Yum.
The entertainment for the evening. Phenomenal.
My favorite thing on earth - banana pudding.
My second favorite thing on earth - vodka frozen in a block of ice.
